Several years ago, as an adult, I decided to try Cross Fit. Upon entering the gym, I noticed a thick climbing rope hanging from the ceiling. Instantly, I flashed back to high school, where I miserably failed at climbing a similar rope. I remember looking on with envy at the few that scurried up the rope like squirrels in a tree. This time would be different, and it was. Climbing that rope, which I did with success in about 2 weeks, was not about strength, though some was necessary, it was about technique. It was about the opportunity to learn and memorize a skill. Letting it settle into my brain, trying it again, failing, and trying again. It’s empowering to learn a new skill, have an adventure, break away from the routine of daily life. It brings meaning and purpose to our daily task, and helps us perform with happiness in our hearts.
It is no different for children. Our children need adventure, exploration, and the opportunity to learn a new skill through trial and error. Farmer’s Helpers programs at Chip-In Farm will provide your children with that opportunity. The farm is a classroom of opportunity, during every season, for each child to learn new skills. Some children will seek that opportunity in the barn with the animals, others will seek it outside in the fields, and yet some will find it in climbing over the fence, just like climbing a rope. Regardless of where they find it, it will be an adventure that brings meaning and purpose to each individual child.
